RIGA, April 15 (LETA) – Participants of the European Individual Women’s Chess Championship in Riga are playing fifth-round matches today.
Today’s matches are scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at the Omega hall of the Radisson Blu Hotel Latvija, with results only expected in the evening.
Six chess players have 3.5 points each after the first four rounds of the tournament, with 62nd-seeded Zeinab Mamedjarova of Azerbaijan
currently in the lead. Meanwhile, 23 chess players have 23 points each, including Ilze Berzina (66) of Latvia.
The players finishing in the first 14 places at the European tournament in Riga will qualify for the Chess World Cup.
Berzina, the leader of the Latvian team who has so far won two victories and ended two matches in a draw, will play 17-seeded Bela Khotenashvili
of Georgia today.
As reported, the European Women’s Chess Championship is taking place at Radisson Blu Hotel Latvija in Riga through April 22. Latvia is
represented by seventeen players at the championship.
